While hiking the Hill Prairie and collecting specimens along the way, participants will learn about the history and geology of the prairie, and learn to identify the plants, insects, birds and wildlife that thrive in this unique habitat.
DATE: Saturday, September 30, 2023 TIME: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
WHERE: The Meredosia Hill Prairie Nature Preserve, located on the Arenzville Road east of U.S. Route 67 near Meredosia. Look for signs. See reverse for directions.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Be sure to wear long pants and closed toe shoes.
TRANSPORATION TO AND FROM THE PRESEVE WILL NOT BE PROVIDED. FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO FOLLOW TO THE PRESERVE, A MEMBER OF THE MORGAN COUNTY AUDUBON SOCIETY WILL DEPART THE JACKSONVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY AT 9:15 A.M. AND LEAD PARTICIPANTS TO THE SITE.

Directions to the Meredosia Hill Prairie Nature Preserve
From Jacksonville:
Head west on West Morton Avenue and take the exit on to U.S Route 67 north toward Beardstown.
Head north on U.S. Route 67 approximately 16.3 miles to the Arenzville Road. (Note: the Arenzville Road is about .8 of mile past the junction of U.S. Route 67 and Illinois Route 104.)
Turn right on to Arenzville Road heading east.
Stay on the Arenzville Road for 2.6 miles until you reach Trones Road.
Turn right (south) on to Trones Road.
Stay on Trones road for one quarter of a mile to the entrance.
Park along the side of the road.
From Arenzville:
Cross the railroad tracks heading west on the Arenzville Road.
Proceed west 5 miles to Trones Road.
Turn left (south) onto Trones Road.
Stay on Trones Rode for one quarter of a mile to the entrance.
