|Location:||Jacksonville Public Library Meeting Room|
|Description:||Sarah Angleton, a local author, will be here to talk about her new historical novel that explores the strange story of the Egyptian mummies and several papyrus scrolls that arrived in 1833 in New York from the Valley of the Kings.
Lyman Moreau is a gentleman swindler, accustomed to changing his identity to suit his schemes. In the spring of 1833, he enlists the help of a black market antiquities dealer and a crooked customs agent to steal a shipment of Egyptian mummies. Exhibiting the stolen goods across several states, the showman seeks his fortune attracting curious crowds and plenty of danger as well as love, loss, and a growing sense of his own mortality. By the time he reaches Ohio, Lyman is looking to unburden himself of the remaining collection and finds an eager buyer in Mormon prophet and founder Joseph Smith.
Sarah Angleton is the author of "Launching Sheep & Other Stories from the Intersection of History and Nonsense," a humorous look at history from the perspective of everyday life. "Gentleman of Misfortune" is her first novel.
