Title: Community Book Discussion on Zoom: "Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City"
Contact: Sarah, 217-243-5435
Location: Zoom
Description: Join the library for a wide-ranging book discussion about "Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City" by Matthew Desmond. The book discussion is open to anyone and will be an opportunity to discuss the issue of homelessness in our community on a deeper level. Two community guests will be joining us:  Alan Bradish, Jacksonville Police Department Chaplain and Dr. Jaclyn Tabor, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Illinois College. Due to the economic impacts of COVID-19 and the recent closure of our community's homeless shelter, this discussion seeks to increase the understanding of poverty and draw parallels between the 2008 financial crisis and today's world. Please e-mail Sarah at ssnyder@jaxpl.org to register. You will receive a free copy of the book to keep upon registration. If you do not have technology at home, please let the library know by calling 217-243-5435 and we will reserve a tablet for you to use inside the library on the night of the event. This event was made possible by a Libraries Transforming Communities grant from the American Library Association.
